I recently changed the update checking code to use a method that  
hopefully crashes less often than  
CFURLCreateDataAndPropertiesFromResource, but a side effect was that  
it seemed to use the previously cached update check.  I think I just  
fixed this today (prior to releasing 1.2.8), but any nightly build  
would have that bug.  Of course, we won't really know until 1.2.9 or  
1.3.0 is released :).
