I suggest to load hyperref when writing your book. This way you can
easily navigate in the pdf output.
If you want to typeset the book later without hyperref, you have
first to remove the .aux, .bbl, .toc, .out and .ind files and maybe
try typesetting twice.
Really no big deal.
