Can you switch off (comment) all font loading commands to see that  
you do not need anything special?

Probably Lucida fonts are used. Bruno Voisin recently wrote a large  
mail on how to install the fonts in a modern TeX system. You can find  
it in the archive. The fonts can be purchased at TUG, I think.
