There seems to be some confusion between the documentation, the error
message text and what Koma is actually doing.
fontsize=12pt seems to be working only as argument to \documentclass,
so the error message is wrong in this point.
(The documentation even states that the fontsize argument can only be
used for scrlttr2.)
Markus seems to be implementing the possibility to switch the
fontsize inside a document using \KOMAoptions, maybe this explains
these inconsistencies.
