If I were you, I would do what I've done: get the time (which will
certainly repay in time), collect courage (not much needed) and upgrade as
soon as possible, at least, to gwTeX.

I'm not completely, but am pretty sure that with the official
MacTeX-2007 package you can skip over TeXLive-07 (if you do not have time
for it now) during the very first steps of instillation: you will click
a button on the left hand side [Customized Instillation] and then
deselect what you do not want. (Then the following step was somewhat
confusing, but just go on). The installation takes just few minutes.

Then, you can use
System Preferences -> Other [Tex Distr] button&palette

for switching between your current teTeX and the newest gwTeX.

You can download also gwTeX directly with i-Installer, as you have been
doing with teTeX.

The above is only my recollection of what I've been doing. But I think
people on the list wrote about this very clearly. Look through the latest
emails by Richard Koch with announcements for the official release of
MacTeX-2007; and also by Bruno Voisin, from Feb-Mar (as I recall, he
explained all these things in great and clear details).

I hope, I'm not giving you troubles by encouraging you. Have in mind we
come to this list to get help on problems, but this, certainly, does not
mean that the life is a basket of problems. It means that we have where
to turn for advises, help, etc.
