Maybe I was a little too strong in my recommendation. In my field,
journals unfortunately have various different styles that they
require, and for this reason I need to use natbib. Since the
citation commands in natbib are different from those in apacite it is
a pain to change between the two. Also, the OP was concerned about
installing a package that didn't exist as part of gwTeX, so the
natbib/apalike solution would allow him to install nothing new. If
all you will ever need is APA citations then apacite is probably a
good choice, but if you need more flexibility then natbib is a better
choice. (And in fact, the new biblatex may turn out to be even better
in the long run, although the learning curve is a little steep.)
