~/Library/texmf (was Re: [OS X TeX] Does not find my private texmf tree)

I just did a fresh installation of mac tex (MacTex-2007.dmg) on a new  
iMac and I am unclear about the default location for personal stuff.  
Is it ~/texmf or ~/Library/texmf? On my old computer, all of my  
personal files are in ~/Library/texmf (and ~/texmf sounds like an  
orphan to put files...)
