[OS X TeX] compiling miktex tools

I tried but failed to compile miktex 2.7. Then I went back to version 
2.5 which works fine both under Tiger and Leopard.

The combination of mpm with gwtex always worked perfect for me.

I think this is a very relevant development in the tex-on-mac scene, but 
until it materializes I would nevertheless suggest to go for mpm if you 
want to keep your tex distribution somewhat up to date.
