I just checked on the Mac of a colleague, still on Tiger: exactly the
same problem shows up as for you. So (Cochin in) Tiger is indeed the
culprit!
Generally, as Maarten Sneep suggested, for XeTeX-specific issues, and
especially those related to fonts, it's better to post to the XeTeX
mailing list <http://tug.org/mailman/listinfo/xetex>. There you'll
find people extremely knowledgeable on fonts; I'm pretty confident
your problem would have been diagnosed there in no time.
Just be aware that the XeTeX list is multi-platform, owing to the now
multi-platform character of XeTeX, so you need to specify your
platform (Mac, Windows, Linux and which brand of it) in order to see
your question addressed efficiently.
