Now all the tools are installed and the installation of Ghostscript
8.62 has been successful (thanks to Alan!)
BUT.....
Coming back to my initial problem:
since ps2pdf in Texmaker was not working, I updated ghostscript to
the 8.62 version (this problem was mentioned here on the list some
time ago).
However, when running ps2pdf in TexMaker I still receive an error
message (however it's a different one):
Process started
/usr/local/bin/ps2pdfwr: line 45: exec: gs: not found
Process exited with error(s)
No pdf file is created. The path for ghostscript in the TexMaker
configuration should be ok (ghostscript: "/usr/local/bin/gs")
and I dont know why Texmaker is telling that gs is not found.
The dvi and ps-file are created in the correct manner.
Any help is much appreciated!
Regards,
Christoph

So then perhaps you didn't install all of the Dev Tools packages.
When I open the XCode Tools mpackage from my Tiger install disk if I
choose Custom Install, I get a list of things to install, including
gcc 4.0 and gcc 3.3
I thought that these were installed by default, but maybe not. (It's
been a long time since I installed Tiger.)
So go back to the XCode Tools installer and under custom install
choose the following (if they're not already chosen). (The default
choices for the rest should be fine.)
Developer Tools Software
gcc 4.0
gcc 3.3
Software Development Kits
Developer Documentation
Then try again?
Sorry this is turning into more of an enterprise than I had
advertised...
