Since the Lucida font files are in your private area, it's correct to  
use updmap-sys without the -H option of sudo. Otherwise, with sudo -H  
updmap-sys ..., your private font files won't be found.

This means that updmap-sys has already recorded the Lucida MAP file  
fragment – which could have been empty then or with the wrong  
contents. To solve this issue you need to disable that MAP file  
fragment to re-enable it afterwards.
