That's the unfortunate situation with non-sys updmap. As I see it, you  
have three options:

1) follow the canonical way and put your fonts and maps in texmf- 
local, like you, Voisin and Dyballa, among others, advise, and use

sudo -H updmap-sys


2) learn how to manage a web2c directory in ~/Library/texmf or  
~/.texlive200x, like Gary Gray does;


3) or follow the non-canonical way to put your personal fonts and maps  
in ~/Library/texmf/fonts... but *always* use the ``sudo <command>-sys  
for *everything* (sudo updmap-sys, sudo texconfig-sys...), which has  
worked fine for me.


Definitely, I would remove any web2c directory in ~/Library/texmf and  
~/.texliveXXXX and start with

sudo updmap-sys --syncwithtrees
