[OS X TeX] Is longtable the environment I should use ?

When you remove the automatism to format the "sections" and insert  
the \\\hline when the next "section" starts manually, you could end a  
page with

	\\
	\newpage
	&

and continue.


The longtable environment creates boxes. They can't be split because  
they're kind of atomic. It's like with an image that is not split on  
two pages (or two columns).
