Maybe your bash needs a pointer where to look for commands (called  
$PATH). The command "kpsexpand" does exist in every TeX Live  
distribution since some years, for example here:

	lrwxrwxrwx 1 root wheel 8 12. Dez 10:49 /usr/local/texlive/2010/bin/ 
universal-darwin/kpsexpand -> kpsetool

In MacTeX it could also be found as /usr/texbin/kpsexpand.
