Perhaps "gratuitous" is a strong word. The point is that users settle into their own ways of using a program (this is especially true with indispensable software, like texshop) that some changes, no matter how well thought and planned, can have serious unintended consequences. I like that TS now gives me the opportunity to search help docs, but I would not assign a shortcut to this service. 

As always, I am grateful to all those who have put the effort in texshop (and bibdesk) to make life easier for the rest of us.
