[OS X TeX] .tex to .doc Conversion

It may not be important, but I thought it's worth mentioning that LyX should be able to serve as an editor for LaTeX even _without_ a TeX installation.

I haven't tried it, but LyX actually shouldn't care too much about a missing TeX engine until you try to typeset the file. Importing and exporting LaTeX source should work. Other conversion tools (e.g., tex4ht) do require a TeX installation. So in short, LyX is really something that could help solve your friend's editing problem without forcing his tex files into .doc format.

Assuming that's the case, and further assuming that you're talking about LaTeX, I would strongly recommend installing the program LyX from

Then when he's done editing, he could create the PDF (or .doc, if really necessary), or he could even export the file back to LaTeX and tell all his friends that after just 10 minutes of work, he miraculously learned how to edit TeX code...

(He would like to learn LaTeX but is too overworked, now, to do it.) Does anyone know of an Apple application that will do this for him? Then again, he might have access to a Windows machine to do the conversion, and then transfer the resultant .doc to his Mac.
