[OS X TeX] Locked Files

I understand that in the new TS (3.06 is what I am using) source files that have not been opened for some time are locked.
It was also my understanding that one can unlock such a file by clicking on the word "Locked" in the filename field and choosing "unlock" from the pull-down menu.
However, when I do this I get the message "This file cannot be unlocked.  You can duplicate it and edit the copy."  However when I hit "duplicate" I get a pane saying "filename.copy" which however, like the locked version, shows no text whatsoever.
Help?
