[OS X TeX] Beamer/MacTex2012/old files

Many thanks Michael, Pete, Herb. I now have the information to explore my installations and clean-up (neglected when things are working). I have been using TeXShop on the iMac, which is where the installation missed a file or there was interference.

/usr/local/texlive/2012 has everything. There might be some stuff in /usr/local/texmf-local that's overriding what's in the 2012 folder. There might also be old versions, say /usr/local/texlive/2008 or something like that.

To get there, either use Terminal or cmd-shift-G in Finder.

As a first step you could open System Preferences and locate "TeX Distribution". Here you can activate any of the known TeX installations. Close all TeX related applications, for example TeXShop, and then try anew with the now selected TeX Live 2012/MacTeX 2012. Later we could discuss things like cleaning. If needed. You can help yourself and us by putting the line

\listfiles

into the preamble of your TeX or beamer files. Or as first line. The \listfiles statement will produce a listing of TeX files used for the run and this in turn will show whether the files are taken from the system or from your "repository". If the latter is true, then some cleaning might be needed.

BTW, TeXShop can open a console window into which it writes a log. An the end of this log you'll find the listing of files used.

Howdy,

All of this looks perfectly normal when installed on a new system. I assume that TeXShop was never used on the iMac before. The first time TeXShop is opened it will create the ~/Library/TeXShop folder and sub-folders. You can certainly carry over the folder from another system.

Do you have files in your personal tree (~/Library/texmf/tex/...) that can be overriding the ones in TeX Live 2012?
