Actually, it is worse than that: the following error will interrupt  typesetting but will *not* bring the console to the foreground, if you have chosen to hide it:

\newcommand{\nn}{{\tilde n}

I consider this behavior a bug, because an error has occurred but the console  does not come to the foreground to let you know.

True. But on a 13'  screen  you can only have so many friends :)
