[OS X TeX] PDFs with gradient mesh applied don't appear

PS:

I get exactly the same behavior if I just open the pdf illustration in Preview.
The full illustration appears, but when the window is dragged to the Retina display,
the surface briefly appears and then vanishes.

It is not surprising that Adobe Acrobat does not have this problem.
Or at least, that Acrobat Reader doesn't have it. The reason is that
Acrobat Reader is not written in Cocoa and has no "high resolution code."
So if "Get Info" is opened for Reader, "Open In Low Resolution" is check
and grayed out. That is, the Mac runs it in low resolution mode, and won't
even try to run it in high resolution mode.
