You probably want to express that in Classical Mac OS \r was used and that in the Unixy Mac OS X \n is used. Both line endings are non-characters… (well, one can call them "control characters")

The 8-bit Mac Roman encoding contains both CR and LF. It is than agreement or convenience or an OS design decision which control character is used for the symbol "end of the line".
