[OS X TeX] Making a PDF with a cropped bounding box just with pdflatex

Hello,

I know that one can make a PDF with a cropped bounding box by first generating a one-page PDF without page numbers and then running it through pdfcrop, but is it possible to do it in a single pass with just pdflatex?  I've looked at the package "standalone", which comes close to doing that in some cases, but it does not handle environments like eqnarray or align very well.
