[OS X TeX] Generic icon for .tex files

Tried both, but I still don’t get the Latex icons. What I get is a TEX icon, which appears a miniature image of the first page of the document, with TEX shown at the bottom. The info window shows the TS icon.

Strangely, in safe boot and as soon as I log on to my account,  the icon momentarily appears as that of latex (the lion with Latex underneath) but then they switch, in front of my very eyes, to the TEX icon as the system presumably is still loading. 

I’m trying to avoid onyx because a reason for the clean install is that my computer was getting too slow in some tasks. I’m now trying to stick as much as I can with OS remedies rather than third party apps.
