Good advice.

If your publisher simply won't deal with LaTeX, don't spend another minute on it. With that said, in my experience, publishers are very conservative, but can be pushed and prodded out of their comfort zone. Keep after them and you might find them to be willing to work with LaTeX. If so, ask again and people on this list can spend some time helping out.
