[OS X TeX] problems after getting new iMac

I was actually asking to directly run

	/usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-darwin/pdflatex

from the command line. Now that you have somehow sanitized the PATH, what does happen if you run the above (bypassing the symlink chain)?

But the problem seems to lie with:

> kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt
> mktexfmt: No such file or directory
> I can't find the format file `pdflatex.fmt'!

So,  second question: what does

	 kpsewhich -engine=pdftex pdflatex.fmt

return? (Maybe you want to run /usr/local/texlive/2014/bin/x86_64-darwin/kpsewhich).
