There is a version of LaTeXiT 2.8.1 at <https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10932738/index.html> that fixes a problem in an internal helper application that may interfere with showing TeXShop's .tex file icon. unzip it on the Desktop. First trash the version in /Applications/TeX and then move the one from the Desktop to replace it.
After that I usually run the version of lsregister with slightly different options than you have. See the enclosed shell script which also works for El Capitan.
