[OS X TeX] weird behavior

This is has nothing to do with TeXShop. 

It could be a problem with the LaunchServices database - which tells the Finder which program it should call to open any given file.
There are few easy things you can do:

Quick workarounds:
 - control-click, choose Open With... and choose TexShop
 - drag over to the TeXShop icon in the Applications folder or the Dock
 - use File->Open in TeXShop

Possible solution:
 rebuild LaunchServices database:

Open Terminal paste the following line (it is a single, very long line) and press enter:

 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
