[OS X Emacs] backwards search with aquamacs and Skim

Thanks for the fast response.  I have tried several different versions of each, without luck.
Note that the problem seems to have originated without changing any versions.  

Currently I am using Version 1.6.16 (146) of Skim and 
Aquamacs 3.6  GNU Emacs 25.3.50.1 (x86_64-apple-darwin20.6.0, NS appkit-2022.60 Version 11.6 (Build 20G165))
of Aquamacs.

It used to work with no .emacs file at all.  However, I tried copying the  ancient .emacs file from my laptop to the desktop;
this didn’t help either.
