[OS X TeX] Utopia fonts

I am by no means a font (t)expert, so I'm afraid I can't tell you  
anything on AFMs, PFBs and all the other funny little three letter  
acronyms (at least that's what they are to me ;-)).

I'm not sure what you mean by "work without a screen font". The Stuffit  
archive at the given address contains four "outline fonts" and one  
"font suitcase", that's what Get Info tells me. The font suitcase is  
named "Utopia (fam).scr" so I guess this one indeed is a screen font.  
If I put all five files into my ~/Library/Fonts/, Utopia will show up  
in Fontbook with four styles. If I take away either the .scr file or  
the four outline files, the whole font will disappear in Fontbook.

I've done a quick test with a few apps and cannot report any  
problems---all the letters work fine, even umlauts do. The Euro  
currency symbol is missing, though. I have not tested printing on paper  
since I don't have a printer here at home.
