Howdy,

After cut and paste did you make sure you saved the file at latin9  
encoding? In TeXShop I used

%%!TEX TS-program = pdflatex
%%!TEX encoding = IsoLatin9
\documentclass[a4paper]{article}
\usepackage[latin9]{inputenc}
\usepackage[full]{textcomp}

\begin{document}
€
\end{document}

(notice the second line) and it worked fine.
