[OS X TeX] latexit issues

Derek,

This is a long shot, but may help you to eliminate some possible  
sources of your problems. I wrote a program that operates in a fashion  
similar to Latexit, and while it is more oriented to the production of  
graphics snippets for TeX documents, it will compile arbitrary LaTeX  
snippets as well. If it fails in the same way as Latextit, that would  
suggest a permissions problem. Do you have any entries in ~/.MacOSX/ 
environment.plist?

My program (which is not widely tested, but works well for me and a  
few colleagues) may be downloaded from
